John T. Haran
Of Counsel
Mr. Haran is Of Counsel in the Mechanical Group. His intellectual property practice focuses on strategic client counseling, including preparing patent infringement and validity opinions, patentability studies, due diligence investigations, and reexamination proceedings. Mr. Haran also has extensive experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications involving manufacturing processes for chemicals, materials, and foods as well as for consumer products, medical devices, and mechanical devices. Mr. Haran is a member of the firm's Patent Practice Committee, a group involved in monitoring rule changes at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Prior to joining Sterne Kessler, Mr. Haran worked for six years as a Patent Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office where he earned the designation of primary examiner. Mr. Haran examined patent applications involving adhesive bonding and molding of plastics and, as a result, became well versed in the technology and applications of adhesives and plastics. While at the USPTO, Mr. Haran also interned at the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences.
